The Village of Elmwood has had an ongoing park improvement project for many years. About four years ago new flooring was installed for the basketball court and the lighting in the park was improved. Elmwood received a matching grant from the Land and Water Use Conservation Fund which was instrumental in getting this project completed.
For the next phase of the project the Village also received a matching grant from the Land and Water Use Conservation Fund to help fund new playground equipment, improvements to the trail, electrical, and accessibility. We have also received donations of money, services, and talent.
The first phase was completed in November, 2017. This phase created a larger playground with updated equipment. Two retaining walls were installed that creates a comfortable area for people to sit and observe their children playing. The new playground contains an area specifically for 2 - 5 year old children and also a play structure for 5 - 12 year old children. There are three new spinning features and also the merry-go-round is still in place. There is a swing set with three belt swings and a Freedom swing for people with all abilities.
As part of this phase electricity has been restored to the picnic shelter along with new lighting. This will give residents more options when using the shelter. A light pole will be installed to help illuminate the playground area better.
The community has been very supportive and encouraging with the playground project. As much as possible we used local talent and volunteers throughout the project. The park is now open and enjoyed by many people. The next phase of the project is in the planning stage and updates will be posted soon.
