Red Nose Day at the Park

Red Nose Day in Park

 Memorial Day Activities in Elmwood

Elmwood has a long history of observing Memorial Day - a day to "remember and reflect on the sacrifices made by so many to provide freedom for all." This is a community event looked forward to by many each year. A time for many families to return to Elmwood and enjoy family and friends while paying respect to our fallen veterans.

Besides attending the Memorial Day services on Monday at 10:00 a.m., there are several ways you can be involved.

First, on Friday evening, May 25 at 7:00 p.m. we will be putting the flags up at the cemetery as well as placing flags at the 200 gravesites of each veteran laid to rest there.

On Monday evening, May 28 at 7:00 p.m. we will return and take up all the flags. Meet at the cenotaph each evening - we'll get started from there.

The Elmwood Community Center will be holding their traditional luncheon on Monday from 11:00 - 1:00. They are in need of salads and desserts. Let me know if you can help out, and I'll pass that info on to the ladies at the Center.

The weekends were rainy, but the teas still continue at  Aldrich House.

But this weekend should be nice, so plan on coming out and having a cup of tea and relaxing a bit with friends.

The Christian Church Women's Group will be hosting "Tea in the Garden" every Saturday and Sunday in May from 1:00 -4:00

A great time to gather with friends, relax and enjoy the spring weather. Inside the museum is a collection of teacups, teapots, and tea service ware which is a reminder of how people entertained guests years ago. I wish we could go back to it now.

Hi, This is Pastor Bill Harrold,
Thanks for receiving our news. What little rains we've been having. It's dry and I'm praying for rain throughout the land.

Looking forward to Pentecost Day, May 20th, the birthday of the Church and gift of the Holy Spirit to all God's People everywhere. I'm wondering just what is it that fire gives us to empower us to be witnesses to the good news for our neighbors.

On June 10th we'll celebrate new life out-of-doors in worship on the grounds 311 N 5th in Elmwood.
We've invited some young people to come help us sing at 10 am. Praise the Lord.

Also, that afternoon will be the Aldrich House Progressive Supper program with special music too. It's always a neat time with the friends of the Aldrich house hosting a fun evening. Well, how's our radical work of being the best neighbors we can while sharing the good news of
God? I'm having fun with this meeting my new neighbors. And I hope you are doing kind deeds for people in your neighborhood. Bye the bye, the Town Park is getting lots of use. Young people, children, parents, bicycle riders and others are getting some re-creation in the great outdoors.

Elmwood Christian Church loves children, becoming more deeply rooted spiritually, and cares about the environment.
See you around the county.
Pastor Bill Harrold

Lofte Community Theatre to Present The Miracle Worker

Opening Soon Miracle Worker

he Lofte Community Theatre, located in Manley, NE will stage William Gibson’s award-winning drama,

The Miracle Worker June 1 - 3, and June 7 - 10.

Set in the 1880s, Tuscumbia, Alabama this classic tells the story of Annie Sullivan and her student, blind and mute Helen Keller. The Miracle Worker dramatizes the volatile relationship between the lonely teacher and her charge. Trapped in a secret, silent world, unable to communicate, Helen is violent, spoiled, almost sub-human and treated by her family as such. Only Annie realizes that there are a mind and spirit waiting to be rescued from the dark, tortured silence.

Over the years, the play has also successfully been adapted for screen and television. Most notably, the 1962 film adaptation which garnered Oscar wins for both Anne Bancroft and Patty Duke.

“Staging The Miracle Worker has been a labor of love,” said Lofte Community Theatre Executive Director, Kevin Colbert. “As plays go, The Miracle Worker is already a heavy piece of literature. Add to that, the complicated staging which must be timed perfectly, and you have some wonderfully challenging obstacles that any actor would love to sink their teeth into. It’s just been a lot of fun, and a lot of learning..”

The cast of The Miracle Worker includes Gary Williams, John Bell, Emma Johnson, Riley Perez, Rachel Radloff and Skyler Radloff of Omaha, Rosalie Duffy, Gabriella Bakirane, Cathy Apolot, Wade Mumford, Nicholas Roth, and Brenna J. Thompson of Lincoln, Kyler Jones, Beatrice Quam, and Sarah G. Riha of Louisville, Melinda Mead, and Addison Broderson of Plattsmouth, Kevin Colbert of Weeping Water, Lilly Frields of Nebraska City, and Lily Pope of Eagle.
