Fall in Nebraska, like the weather? Wait a minute, it's going to change! Ugh! Who was ready for Sunday??

IMG 20181015 103449However,... Saturday was WONDERFUL!!

The Elmwood Makers Mart had their first day at the Community Center. Turnout was slow, but that's okay. We had fun anyway.

When we got out of the community center we were met by the rumble of over 100 BMX and ATVs cruising down Main Street. How Cool!

BMX ATV Rally Cruise Poker Run

elmwood 1017 18 1

If you were in town early Saturday afternoon you couldn't help but here a herd/pack/group/convoy of ATV and UTVs coming through town.

It was the 2nd ATV/UTV gravel Cruise Poker Run in conjunction with Eagle Raceway.

They made multiple stops, that started at the Eagle Racetrack, ran through Elmwood and Murdock where they stopped at Bulldogs, then Manley and back to Eagle.

After the participants went to Eagle Hallow Haunts and camped in the parking area Friday and Saturday night, Will be a great time plan to be there tell your friends!!

As with all of their events a portion of the proceeds will go towards a charitable cause this event we will donate towards the Austin Fritz Memorial Scholarship fund. I also met up with the group in Murdock and found out there were about 160 ATVs participating.

What FUN!!

After oogling and awwing over the fun toys, I went shopping at the Iron Horse Emporium.

Ironhorse 1

If you haven't been in there, you are in for a treat! Plenty of shopping and decorating ideas for Halloween. Take the kids they have motion activated decorations. Surprised even me.

Then got a call from Marie Gregoire.

Film Crew on Set at the Local AirBnB

A group of students from The University of Nebraska film school took over the grounds of the "Country Home" AirBnB on Saturday afternoon to film their movie project 1995. It is about a friendship between an older lady and a young woman who is making a movie.

IMG 8544I stopped by and took some time to watch the filming in action. Pretty boring actually. A lot of people standing around waiting, and waiting. Finally, "Quiet on the Set" was announced...."Action"

IMG 8545

Then about 30 seconds of filming. "Cut" That was in during the 30 minutes I stood there.

So movie magic takes a LOT longer in real life. If I learn more about the film, I will let you know. I believe it's a short film for a school project. Preproduction started in the spring. It may even be entered into a contest.

Mo Pac Trail

I also took the opportunity to take a walk on the Mo-Pac trail. It was a beautiful day and it had been too long since I had taken a stroll through the trees.

We take this wonderful trail for granted in our area. Many years ago my friend Beth and I would go walking 2-3 times a week during the evenings and I would take Brody my Jack Russell. For various reasons we stopped.

IMG 8579

As I walked onto the trail I was transported to somewhere else other than Nebraska. It reminded me of New England where I grew up. It smelled like "woods". The wind rustled through the trees, my feet crunched on fall leaves. It was quiet, but not quiet.

I stood at the bridges and listened to the water babbling. It was wonderful. Take some time, and take a walk.

Murdock Fall Scarecrow Display

My day was not over though. If you haven't been to Murdock lately you need to go! Seriously...yeah, that's my word.

IMG 8534Murdock knows how to do Halloween and fall decorating. Not only is Main Street decorated with over twenty scarecrows but many houses are decorated throughout town. Inflatables, pumpkins and more scarecrows.

IMG 8505

This is all made possible by the M.I.T. or the Murdock Improvement Team. A group inspired by Linda Glantz and her Murdock Pride efforts over the years. What a great tradition!

Coming soon Quarter-Mania!!

The last fundraiser to get the Mommy and Me swings in the park. If you missed last springs event don't miss this one. It is Saturday night October 27th and the doors open at 5:30.

Space will be limited so buy your table space now. Get together with your friends and get extra paddles.

Village News - Upcoming Election

Park Aldrich front

Park Aldrich 2 A New Look for Main Street.

First, it was the tree in front of the bank, now it's the tree in front of the community center.

Look what happened on Tuesday morning!

elmwood 1017 18 2elmwood 1017 18 3

However, this tree has been an eyesore for many. It sheds leaves, branches, and debris all year. Both of which fall on the roof of the building and have caused damage.

We can now proceed with the Main Street improvements in the sidewalk and other utilities.

I think you're going to like what is planned for the future.

Elmwoodboard 1010 2018 2

A month from now the citizens of Elmwood will go to the polls and vote for three new Village Board members. A lot of you will be voting by absentee ballot so you may have already received it.

Two people have filed to run for office so their names will be on the ballot…one incumbent, Miki Bruns, and one former Village Board member who has a passion to serve again, Pat Wray. Brandon Collins and I have opted not to run again. I plan to continue working on projects that we have started though.

One person that I know of has stepped up to be a write-in candidate. Rebecca (Becky) Kicak, has been involved with many Village projects and committees in Elmwood in the last few years.

She has attended board meetings and is interested in serving on the Village Board. I would encourage you to vote for Becky, Miki, and Pat. They have the village’s best interests in mind.

Elmwoodboard 1010 2018 3

We currently have two vacancies on the Planning Commission. The Planning Commission is supposed to have 5 members who either live in Elmwood or within the outer jurisdiction of Elmwood.

The planning commission is responsible for the comprehensive plan; keeping it up to date, implementing projects to fulfill the plan, and keeping the village in line with the planning and zoning regulations. They have just begun a comprehensive plan overhaul which you will be hearing more about in the near future. It is an exciting time to be on the planning commission.

Elmwoodboard 1010 2018 1

If you are a positive person and like a challenge and are interested in serving your community consider being a write-in candidate for Village Board. Consider serving on the Planning Commission. Consider volunteering for the projects that are happening now. No, it won’t be easy. But it will be worth it. One person can make a difference and together we can make a change.

If not you…then who do you want to be responsible for making decisions that are going to affect you, your neighbors, and your community? Choose wisely, my friends. Choose wisely.

Work on N-63 Alvo North Realignment

March 15, 2018 (Lincoln, Neb.) — Weather permitting, work is scheduled to continue the week of March 19 on N-63, between Alvo and I-80, according to the Nebraska Department of Transportation.

Knife River, LLC of Sioux City, Iowa has the $11,758,926 contract. Work will include realignment of N‑63, culverts and box culverts, and wetland mitigation. This will be the second of two phases of work.

During this phase, N-63 will be closed to traffic from Reference Post 4+20 (Alvo) to Reference Post 9+68 (Church Road). A marked detour will be in place along I-80 to N-66 to N-50 to US-34 for southbound traffic and along US-34 to N-50 to N-66 to I-80 for northbound traffic. This portion of the project is anticipated to be completed in November 2018.

The Department’s project manager is Jesse De Los Santos of Lincoln. Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously through work zones and along detours.
