Girl Scouts celebrate "Whirled Peace" in Elmwood-Murdock
To honor the 100th anniversary of Girl Scouting in the U.S., the girls of Elmwood-Murdock's mixed age level troop 20502 are returning to founder Juliette Low's ideal of service by focusing more on community projects and the Girl Scout creed, "Do a good turn daily." Speaking of "good turns", those traveling down the main streets of Elmwood and Murdock on Wednesday, September 21st, may have noticed pinwheels turning in the breeze. To celebrate the International Day of Peace, troop 20502 sponsored the Pinwheels for Peace project. The troop provided the materials and the "know how" and with help from the preschool classes, Mrs. Cook's kindergarten class, and both 4th grade classes, were able to exceed their goal of 100 pinwheels this year. At their Tuesday meeting, Cadette Ashley Schnabel, Juniors Elyse Drake, Faith Offner, Kylee Synovec, Kylee Wilson, Molly Feile and Valerie Miller, and Brownies Harlee Wilson and Lily Schied worked hard creating peaceful masterpieces and finishing pinwheels for the display. I took my grandkids to Bloom Where You're Planted this weekend...how lucky are we that this is almost in our backyard! Only 15 miles from home and hours of fun! Emma and Zack had so much fun...Emma declared it, "The best day EVER!" I think we'll be going back! It was small enough that I didn't lose them and yet had enough activities that they were never bored. In fact, they wore out before we were able to do and see everything! So, yes, we will definitely go back!

Zack loved the horse swings!

Emma thinks Grandpa needs one of these in his yard.

Doesn't it look like fun! Great entertainment at a BBQ...I wonder if this comes in adult sizes?

The hay bales gave them a chance to climb.

They were still for just a split second!

Judging by the squeals and screams I would say this was the best swing they have ever swung on!

Now we have to come back next year for sure just to see how much she has grown. I can see this could become a tradition!

The hay rack ride out to the pumpkin patch was magical. Emma was shopping for her pumpkin on way.

Yep, this is the one. Let's get it on the wagon, Grandma!

So how is the new recycling program going for you at your house? I know we are able to fill the recycle bin every week and it is the same size, if not a little bigger than the regular trash can. Remember, if you fill your recycle bin and it is still 5 days until pick up you can still use the recycle trailer located in the park! See the schedule below for days and times when it is available. Remember, Elmwood gets money for all the cardboard that it collects at the recycle trailer...so save your cardboard for the trailer! Keep Elmwood Green!
