Cronks

It's hard to believe that one of Elmwood's beloved families has up and moved away!  Don and Amanda Cronk and their kids, Liberty, Cooper, Jackson, and Hailey moved to Arizona this week.  The Cronk kids were often in the Elmwood newsletter because they loved for me to take their pictures! We will miss their smiles and their laughter.  They will be in our thoughts daily and in our hearts forever.  We wish them well on their new adventures and remind them that "There's no place like home" if they accomplish their goals there.  They may be a half a country away but Nebraska will always be home.  So happy for them to follow their dreams.  Until we meet again...we will keep in touch on facebook.

 Farmer's Market in Full Swing!

These two lovely ladies brought out their canned goods, fresh vegies, and baked goods.  I took advantage of all they had, too!  Gloria had some wonderful homemade bread and pickled beets that I couldn't pass up.  I also had to have some banana bread, fresh lettuce, and asparagus.  Stop down next week and see what they bring!  I know it will be good!

“Dearly Beloved” Opens Lofte’s 38th Season

The Lofte Community Theatre in Manley announces the opening of “Dearly Beloved” on their main stage on May 24th.  Frankie has almost made herself sick with the elaborate preparations for her daughter’s antebellum wedding, and the rumor mill in little Fayro, Texas is working overtime.  Frankie and her sisters are no strangers to gossip.  They had a scandalous breakup of their almost-famous gospel trio, ‘The Sermonettes.’

Despite Frankie’s conversations with her dead mother, Honey Raye’s habit of racing to the altar time after time, and Twink’s own struggle to get her boyfriend of 15 years down the aisle, Frankie is determined to pull off this wedding with elegance and style.  However, this is made more difficult when the wedding dinner is turned into a potluck supper sponsored by Clovis Sanford’s House of Meat and gold lame gowns are worn to the church!

Directed by Kevin Colbert, the cast stars Chris Werger of Eagle; Alyssa DiPaolo of Lincoln, Shari Hoelker, Doug Rothgeb, and Randy Wallace of Omaha; Keri Hogue of Elmwood; Wendy Allen, Pat Billings, Bret Tincher and Melinda Mead of Plattsmouth and Kevin Colbert of Weeping Water.

Production dates for the show are May 24, 25, 30, 31 and June 1 and 6-8.  Curtain times are 7:30pm except for Sundays which are 2pm matinees.  Single show tickets are $19, but you can buy a season pass for $65 until June 8.  The season pass entitles one person admission to all five regular season shows in 2014.  Call the Lofte box office at 402-234-2553 or purchase online at www.Lofte.com.

Hello,

As an affiliate of Keep America Beautiful, I am sharing information about a Lowe's/KAB Community Grant that you might want to consider for your ballfields, community parks, or other projects.

Grants may be written in three amounts: $5,000, $10,000, or $20,000.

2014 KAB/Lowe's Community Improvement Grants

In 2014, Lowe’s is once again sponsoring the Lowe’s/Keep America Beautiful Community Improvement Grants. The program will award $765,000 in grants to Keep America Beautiful Affiliates and participating organizations for community improvement projects to be completed in 2014. The Lowe’s/Keep America Beautiful Community Improvement Partnership Program consists of:

1) Lowe’s/Keep America Beautiful Community Improvement $5,000 Grants: These grants will be awarded as a $4,500 check with a $500 follow up check to be awarded once project completion report is submitted and accepted.

2) Lowe’s/Keep America Beautiful Community Improvement $10,000 Grants: These grants will be awarded as a $9,000 check with a $1,000 follow up check to be awarded once project completion report is submitted and accepted.

3) Lowe’s/Keep America Beautiful Community Improvement $20,000 Grants: These grants will be awarded as an $18,000 check with a $2,000 follow up check to be awarded once project completion report is submitted and accepted.

These grant applications should reflect the need for a high impact project in your community and you are strongly encouraged to involve your local Lowe's stores and Lowe’s Heroes.

All projects must be completed by December 1, 2014 with project report submission to Keep America Beautiful by December 18, 2014. Recipients are encouraged to submit project completion reports before the deadline.

In an effort to highlight ongoing grant projects and activities in real time through social media and other channels, recipients will be required to submit timely project updates as well as a final project wrap up report.

Project Description (Maximum - One-page, two-sided): •Please re-iterate the grant dollar amount you are applying for and provide a brief (one to two sentences) overview of the project. •What are the specific goals and objectives of this project/program? •How will your project/program address specific community needs? •What's the anticipated community impact that will result from this grant funding? •Detail your project/program budget including a description of how grant funds will be spent. •Detail your plans for sustainability. •Provide your plan for reaching out to local media and promoting the project through social media.

Special consideration will be given to applicants that:

-  Involve local Lowe’s Heroes in their projects.

-  Describe how your approach is innovative and creative in addressing the expressed community need.

-  Describe how are other partners such as neighborhood, civic, trade or government groups, businesses as well as schools and youth groups will be involved and how their funding is being used? (Whether a direct contribution or in-kind.)

If you have a community project that might qualify, please contact me for more information.  The deadline is June 25, 2014.

Thank you,

Linda Behrns
