Johnny Thompson...Riding Wheelies through Heaven
Whenever I heard a motorcycle coming down the street in our neighborhood I could tell by the sound of it who it was, Johnny Thompson. He loved his motorcycle and he would often take a spin through town and sometimes I'd see him pull it up into a wheelie and ride up the street. He loved his stunts but I never thought of him as being a daredevil. He was just really good at what he did. He would bring his son, also named Johnny, to the skating rink on Saturday night and teach him how to skate. Johnny could skate better than he could walk or ride a motorcycle. He passed this on to his son. He was such an easy going guy. I'm sad to say that Johnny didn't make the curve the other night coming home from Murdock in the dark. I'm sure that he is riding wheelies through heaven now looking down on his boy and keeping him safe. Services for Johnny are Wednesday afternoon at the Christian Church in Elmwood with a luncheon to follow at the Elmwood Community Center. I hope everyone takes a minute to say a prayer for his 14 year old son, his family, and his friends. Johnny will be remembered.

Good Luck and Don't Forget Where You Came From!
Jim and Grace Ronhovde, long time Elmwoodians, have uprooted themselves and are moving to New Mexico! Jim is a retired teacher and Grace was teaching in Louisville when they got a wild hair and decided to try something new. Both secured teaching positions in New Mexico near a reservation and are looking forward to their new adventure in a far away land. We are looking forward to updates from the two as they embark an this exciting next chapter of their lives. I'll keep you posted as I hear from them!

In garages, storage units, and old buildings here in the heartland lies a treasure that is revealed usually on summer days. The people who possess these treasures bring them out, clean them up, and drive them to the Show & Shines. Last weekend there were two car shows, one in Ashland and one in Louisville…same day, same time. There were hundreds of cars between the two shows. That is a lot of people who place value on the automotive history and who keep their vehicles under wraps. Hundreds of people poured out to see the cars and admire the dedication of the owners to preserving a piece of history.

The main streets of Ashland was lined with over 167 old cars, trucks, and motorcycles Sunday. Here are just a few.

Not to be outdone, Louisville had a "Last Hot Sunday in July" Show and Shine. It was well represented also...I have no idea how many cars but very close to the number at Ashland.
