American Exchange Bank Employees Enjoy Some Halloween Fun
The American Exchange Bank employees dressed up for Halloween. If you were lucky enough to stop by on Friday you were entertained by their outfits. These people have fun at their jobs and make it look more like fun than work. And it's no wonder when you see how many years they have worked together. Check out how many years the employees have worked at the bank. Longevity is a great thing!
Don't forget that customers of the American Exchange Bank are invited to enjoy a free movie at the Edgewood Theater in Lincoln on Monday, November 17th.

From left to right: Andy Clements, Dave Drevo (Clements and Drevo Law Office), Karen Schweitzer, Rick Clements, Tracy Spaulding, Rob Clements, Donna Mason, and Penny Richter (Clements Insurance Agency)

Rick Clements was the King of Hearts!

I heard that Willie Robertson was in town Friday. He must have stopped in to do a little banking business.

The Election Results are In!
The "Unofficial Results" as of early Wednesday morning show the new Elmwood Village Board Members to be:
Lou Allgayer - incumbent
Mike Krass
Julie Anderson - hey, that's me!!!
If you would like to see the results for the Cass County 2014 elections click here!

A huge thank you to the Cass County Tourism Board and Euclid Masonic Lodge #97 (Weeping Water) for helping to fund our new sign; to Suzanne at Creative Edge Signs and Graphics in Weeping Water for designing and making it; Jeff Johnston for helping to install; and the two strangers who showed up unexpectedly with Boyd and pretty much took over the rest of the installation. We were done in no time at all. - From Bonnie Brewer

It's that time of year when the farmers are in the field and on the roads. Please be patient if you find yourself behind their equipment on the roads. They may slow you down a few minutes but it's worth the wait.

This is the wood chipper that made quick work of the pile of brush on the east side of Elmwood. At the end of the first day they had chipped enough to fill three semi trailers full. It only took a couple days to eliminate our pile of brush. The circular tool above would extend over the pile and as it lowered down it chipped the pile into bits.
Please remember that the brush pile is for tree limbs and brush but not leaves, building materials, railroad ties, or trash.

My neighbors were out carving pumpkins last week. Levi Offner and Claire Ernst made some pretty cool pumpkins.

Congratulations to the Elmwood-Murdock Volleyball team for playing a great and hard played match tonight just falling a smidge short to undefeated Freeman 16-25, 25-21, 25-20, 21-25, 13-15. Next time you see a Volleyball girl make sure you congratulate each and every one of them for giving Freeman all they had and leaving everything they had on the Volleyball court. Stay tuned for future game information. Even though the result was not what they wanted they still can walk away saying as always KNIGHT PRIDE! --Reported by Owen Kunz

Loved seeing all the trick or treaters this year! Especially the ones who weren't scary! It was a cold night but it was good to see the kids and parents out and about. The Campbell kids along with their Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle escort were having a great time.

I was approached by Zach Baumgart last week about his new dog walking service. He offered to walk my dogs for a nominal fee for as long as I wanted. I couldn't turn him loose with Zoey because she is just too big but Romeo...yes, Romeo was just his size. Zach and Noah Jones business is called Zach and Noah's Pet Lounge Dog Walking Service. I'm happy to give these young men a good reference. They showed up on time and even brought reinforcements just in case. Devin Mathers was glad to tag along. Zach brought plastic bags just in case Romeo pooped along the way and he did so Zach picked it up and took care of it. What a good kid! I will definitely have them back to walk Romeo again soon. He was very happy with his walk and really liked the boys. If you are interested in their services you can contact Zach through his mom at 402-314-8871.

Halloween and Costume Contest Fun and Some Karaoke, too!
The Red Cedar Lounge held a Halloween Party/Costume Contest Saturday night. We didn't have costumes but decided to go up for some dancing and fun. There were some very clever costumes and some really good karaoke singers.

Theresa Brown and Brenda Brockhoff were a detective and prisoner.

Blake Shelton showed up to sing Austin. He was really good!

Joey Jones, Brenda and Theresa

Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf - Karen and Bud Bogatz

Of course I had to have a selfie with the girls!

The judging of the costume contest.

Our friends, Randy and Nikki, belted out a tune. You may remember him, he is a DJ and has dj'd at the Red Cedar Lounge and at the skating rink for us. If you need a dj check out his website for his company, A Lasting Impression DJ.

A rare selfie of Vince and I.

Elmwood Murdock Art Students Display Artwork at Bess Streeter Aldrich House
The art teacher at the Elmwood Murdock High School, Rebecca Campbell, is having a great time with our kids. They have so much talent as was exhibited in the displays at the Bess Streeter Aldrich House. The art instructor position is a part time position so Mrs. Campbell works hard to find the time to work with the kids to make sure they know the basics of art but also introduces abstract thinking to the kids. She focuses on the basics and tries to make sure the kids know the fundamentals of art. The SOS program at the Elementary school funds Mrs. Campbell's time with the younger kids. With so many talented art students it would be great if we could expand this position to full time!

College Can Be Scary But Not with Education Quest
Every parent reaches that point where they have to start talking to their teen about their future. If your child chooses college then you have to start talking about which college they might want to attend. And how are they going to afford it. Joe thought he might like to attend UNL so we went on a college visit there this week. It is quite impressive and I understand why people want to go there. As we walked across campus we met up with Herbie Husker who insisted on having his picture taken with Joe.
If parents are interested in learning more about college options and how to navigate the whole process Education Quest will be at the Elmwood Murdock High School on Wednesday, November 19th at 6:30. This is directed toward Junior and Senior students and their parents. The Education Quest personnel will discuss the FAFSA process. If you have never heard of this before you should attend. Education Quest is a great asset to parents and students on figuring out this whole college thing. It can be scary and they will help.
