Elmwood Rescue

Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation awards millions of dollars’ worth of lifesaving equipment and resources to first responders and public safety organizations throughout the country. The lifesaving equipment purchased through these grants often provides an immediate impact on the recipients’ ability to better support their communities as Elmwood Rescue recently experienced during a cardiac arrest emergency.
Elmwood Rescue was awarded a chest compression system to help its medical crew respond to cardiac arrest emergencies in its rural response area. Shortly after the equipment arrived, the crew was dispatched to the scene of a man in respiratory distress. The team used the awarded device to provide continuous chest compressions until the patient’s pulse returned. Today, he is out of the hospital and able to resume a normal life.
“A big thank you to Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation for helping us purchase this lifesaving device!”
– Captain Ed Blunt, Elmwood Rescue

Do you like the Elmwood Farmers Market? Have you come out in the past years and bought baked goods, vegetables, cards, candles, or crafts?

We need your help!
In 2018 the Farmers Market was started moved to the park with a couple of vendors. Over the years we have had close to 50 different vendors bringing everything from flowers, banana bread, vegetables, dog treats, to jalapeno jelly.

During Covid, we grew tremendously! For a couple of reasons. There were no extracurricular activities, and families stayed at home. Since the Elmwood Farmers Market was open, Saturday morning became a gathering spot. Our vendor list grew to 12-14 vendors per week.
The market extended through October and ended with a Chili cookoff.

From the support and encouragement of 2020 at least three vendors were inspired to start small businesses. The summer of 2021 saw the lifting of local restrictions and a decrease in the attendance of vendors and customers. Ball games and tournaments were now the gathering places. Vendors stuck it out, but attendance waned. The market ended earlier in September.

We now come to 2022. Not only is Nebraska open, but the whole nation, mask mandates have been lifted on airlines and people are making up for travel and reunions they did not take before.
Our vendors work hard, buy supplies, and spend time getting ready to serve customers. But, without customers, they lose money.

Has the Farmers Market run its course? If you want the market to continue, STOP BY the market this Saturday and let us know.
If customer attendance does not pick up this may be the last year.

Village Board Meeting
Board meetings are open to the public and are held every 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month.
The meetings are held at the new Village Board office located at the Learning Center on the south side of town.
Official agendas are posted the day before at the Post Office, Gas Station, and Village Office. Prior to the posting of the agenda, meeting items can be added to the meeting. At the end of each meeting is a Public Comment Section. Attendees have three minutes to speak about anything at this time. Further discussion on the topic can then be added to the next board meeting.
The agenda is posted at the Elmwood C-Store, the post office, and the Village office.
Minutes can be viewed at the Village office or can be found online.

Wouldn't it be amazing if the board meetings were FULL every time? This is your opportunity to be involved, be "in the know" and learn how to influence how your community grows, how improvements can be made, and how you can participate in the steps needed to MAKE IT HAPPEN.

Dear Avoca friends near and far!
The Avoca Town Hall has been a big part of the Village for many years. Without it many people would be at a loss on where to gather for village events and many other occasions.
The last couple of years have been a struggle due to covid cancellations, funds are short. The Hall is in major need of repairs. Board members are working on raising money to help cover the cost of repairs that need to be made.
1. New Roof
2. Masonry work on the front of the building
3. Replacement of Deck
4. General Maintenance.
If you would like to help in our efforts to save the Town Hall we
would very much appreciate any monetary donation towards our goal of
$25,000.
